The Don’t Do That Series

What if the problem was never a lack of willpower?

Don’t Do That is a growing series exploring the patterns beneath the behaviours we cannot seem to stop.

Each book takes a different presenting problem and traces it back to where it actually started. Food, alcohol, overwork, relationships. The specific behaviour is rarely the actual problem. It is where an older, unmet need learned to express itself.

Fourteen years of clinical practice, across REBT, CBT, ACT and trauma informed work, built the pattern recognition behind every book in the series. They are written to be recognised rather than believed, which is why they read like being understood rather than being told.

The behaviour is not the problem. It is the place an older, unmet need learned to speak.

The model at the centre of it

Every book in the series runs on the same underlying reading of behaviour. The first one names it.

The original clinical model

The Food Triangle

An application of the Drama Triangle to eating behaviour. Three roles you rotate through with food without noticing, each one a strategy rather than a character flaw, each one traceable to a specific attachment pattern and a specific unmet need.

Learn the model, then learn how to step out of it, in the Reformed Triangle.
